The New York Police Department’s bomb squad is set to relocate its operations to 241 West 26th Street, a six-story structure that formerly operated as a parking garage in Chelsea, Manhattan. The project involves renovations to the structure’s 37,725 square feet of interiors and refurbishments and light modifications to its exterior. Tori Operating Corp. is listed as the owner of the site, which is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues.
The property stands closed off with wooden sidewalk fencing around the garage door. The exterior is largely comprised of red brick with intricate bond patterns. The ground floor is coated in an aging layer of peeling white paint, and white stone with ornamental Art Deco reliefs are incorporated into the cornice and crown. At the top is a secondary layer of intricate stone blocks forming the roof parapet. 241 West 26th Street was originally built in 1930.
No renderings have been revealed for the exterior renovations apart from the below elevation diagram posted on the construction board. The illustration depicts a modified ground floor with new windows and expanded garage doors to accommodate the height of the squad’s vehicles. The permit listing indicates no change to the egress layout.
The NYPD Bomb Squad currently operates and works out of the Sixth Precinct at 233 West 10th Street. The nearest subways from the development are the 1 train at the 28th Street station along Seventh Avenue and the C and E trains at the 23rd Street station on Eighth Avenue.
241 West 26th Street’s anticipated completion date was slated for March 2025, but work will likely conclude sometime next year.

This is certainly one of the nicer looking garages in the city. Hopefully, the dreadful white paint will disappear. The parapet panels seem almost gothic. I would have expected something more geometric.
Nice building
Beautiful Art Deco building. I hope they don’t ruin it.
The Bomb Squad.
Should be in industrial area
