Foundation work is progressing rapidly at 50 Trinity Place, as steel rebar and formwork for the sub-story levels are now reaching street level. Excavation and pilings were still ongoing at the time of YIMBY’s late-July update and now work will soon commence for the superstructure of the ground-up Aloft Hotel. Located in the Financial District at the corner of Trinity Place and Rector Street, diagonally across from Trinity Church, the hotel is designed by Peter Poon ArchitectsFIT Investment Corporation is the developer of the project, and purchased the Lower Manhattan site for $15 million from Sam Chang in 2012.

New photos show the active construction site, which has a slight decline in elevation going west on Rector Street.

A total of 77,310 square feet and 173 rooms will be created, with seven to eight rooms per floor. The hotel will also feature a ground-floor restaurant and a fitness center on the second floor for guests.

The Aloft Hotel is placed among a dense neighborhood of old and new skyscrapers. On the same plot of land is 77 Greenwich Street, a new 42-story residential building under construction designed by FXCollaborative and developed by Trinity Place Holdings. Just a couple streets to the north is the slender glass condominium skyscraper at 125 Greenwich Street by Rafael Vinoly and the 16-acre World Trade Center complex. The prime location makes it well situated for the rising number of tourists that visit New York City and also has the convenience of being right next to the 1, R, and W trains at the two Rector Street subway stations that surround the address. The 4 and 5 trains at Wall Street are a short walk to the east on Broadway, and the Westfield mall at the World Trade Center, Brookfield Place, and subway hubs like Santiago Calatrava’s Oculus and the Fulton Street subway station are also nearby.

Completion of 50 Trinity Place is posted on the construction fence for December 2020.

The Rinaldi Group as GC/CM for 50 Trinity Place. Repeat work for developer Peter Zen – Previous work for Mr. Zen on 45 E 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016, Hilton Garden Inn.

  2. Strange, for a mostly windowless wall to face a street.
