Construction is now underway for Netherwood Flats, a new mixed-use development at 829 South Avenue in Plainfield, New Jersey. From developer Paramount Assets, the four-story complex will include 70 apartments, 4,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, and an underground parking structure.

Netherwood Flats is expected to debut by 2021 and is touted as a catalyst for the reinvigoration of Plainfield. Described as a transit-oriented development, the property is located in close proximity to the Netherwood Transit train station and offers residents easy access to the Raritan Valley commuter rail line operated by New Jersey Transit.

On-site amenities will include a landscaped, elevated courtyard, a 1,500-square-foot fitness center, and a shared residents’ lounge. The residential component will offer a mix of oversized one- and two-bedroom units.

“Netherwood Flats symbolizes an exciting new chapter in this neighborhood’s ongoing redevelopment,” said Richard Dunn, Paramount’s senior vice president. “Our goal for this ground-up project is to create a mixed-use destination that elevates the city’s appeal while honoring its unique character. We’re thrilled to work in conjunction with Mayor [Adrian] Mapp and his administration to bring this vision to life.”

  1. Mid-sized infill developments like this near every commuter rail station are the best way to solve our housing shortage.
