Façade work is progressing on 21-59 44th Drive, a topped-out six-story residential building from Z Architecture in Long Island City, Queens. Located at the northern corner of 44th Drive and 23rd Street, the property will contain 20 units, 2,600 square feet of retail space, and 361 square feet of community facilities.

Photos from street level and from the elevated Court Square subway platform show the reinforced concrete superstructure with all of the metal window and door frames in place. Work has yet to begin on the white hand-laid brick curtain wall.

Homes will span 14,000 square feet and average around 740 square feet apiece. Residential amenities include indoor-outdoor recreational space on the second floor, a landscaped roof deck, and storage facilities for both packages and bicycles.

The following renderings show 21-59 44th Drive’s overall massing, which is difficult to see in photos due to the scaffolding and construction netting that covers part of the building. The structure incorporates a number of setbacks with the highest elevation along 44th Drive, and a series of steps down to the north. Retail frontage will span the entire ground floor, and the residential entrance is positioned on the northern corner under a metal canopy. Stacks of balconies protrude from the eastern and southern elevations.

The E and M trains can be accessed to the west along 44th Drive, while the G and 7 trains are a couple streets to the south along 23rd Street. There are a number of local supermarkets and places to eat around the site.

A completion date for 21-59 44th Drive has not been announced, though the envelope could possibly be finished before the end of the year, with interiors not too far behind.

  1. The structure is fully willing to reveal unique designs. While also growing on progress for the well-being of convenience; forcing the eyes to look at it: Thanks to Michael Young.
