Extell Development Company has announced a major joint venture with global investment entity Tennor Holding B.V. to complete 50 West 66th Street, a 775-foot-tall residential skyscraper on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. When finished, the building will wrest the title of tallest building in the neighborhood from 200 Amsterdam Avenue.
While Extell has confirmed Tennor as the project’s co-developer, specifics regarding the financial breakdown of the partnership have not been made public.
“We are pleased to work with Tennor on this premier project,” said Gary Barnett, chairman and founder of Extell Development Company. “We believe the superb location, views, and design will make it one of the most desirable residential buildings in New York City and expect it to be a great success for both Extell and Tennor.”
The building is located just steps from cultural landmarks including Central Park and Lincoln Center, a proximity that executive architect Snøhetta claims influenced the structure’s design. In this regard, selected building materials include a natural palette of limestone, bronze cladding, an elegant glass curtain wall, and a uniquely tapered crown.
The residential component will comprise 127 condominiums and a suite of recreational amenities including an indoor pool, a full basketball court, a squash court, and a bowling alley. Additional amenity spaces on the 20th floor include a manicured lounge, a business center, a landscaped terrace with fire pits, and a spa.
“Despite the current challenging environment, Tennor has a long-term belief in New York’s global importance and is undertaking a material investment in the city to support local jobs, tax revenues, and communities,” said Lars Windhorst, chairman of the advisory board of Tennor Holding B.V. “As well, we are excited to invest and partner with Extell in this premier development.”
While an official project timeline has not been revealed, construction is ongoing.

Beautiful structure. I wonder what the destiny of the nearby 200 Amsterdam Ave will be. Taking into consideration the current circumstances hopefully it will be left untouched
Tennor could better support local jobs and communities by investing in affordable housing that New Yorkers need rather than building more luxury housing for the international elite that likely won’t sell.
More luxury which is currently being offerred at 25 % to 35% less then market prices . Dreamers still exist!
David in Bushwick: Nice thought, but they’re a business. Not a non-profit. Time for a reality check.
Separately, although it looks like a nice project, the article should absolutely have mentioned the height controversy. The article does come off as only pro-developer, and there’s a big back story on this project that should be mentioned.
My 2 cents: This project will be fought to the death (hopefully not literally) by NIMBY’s until AFTER completion and possibly after occupancy of the building.
Very nice. Of course a stone’s throw away on 57th street, the buildings are twice as tall.
Construction is NOT ongoing. There hasn’t been construction on the site for a year.
money, money, build, build. Now the hard part, over 4,000 units up for sale or lease, other than very high price buyers ,nothing but buyers who demand 25 to 40 percent off. Hope things change soon, or there will a large amount wear houseing…
A disgrace !! To put another tallest building in a surpopulated aera ! How people will walk So congestionnéd already
Good investment for chinese people to escape Hong Kong !!!
