The Fountains Affordable Housing Development Opens at 11629 Seaview Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn

This week, The Arker Companies celebrated the completion of a new affordable housing building at 11629 Seaview Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn. The residential building is one of two properties that comprise phase one of The Fountains, a six-building affordable housing complex that will yield 1,163 apartments.

Now complete, phase one introduces 332 units for households at 60 percent area median income. The first building at 11629 Seaview Avenue will comprise 65 units. The second building at 911 Erskine Street was completed earlier this year and contains 267 apartments.

“The Arker Companies is grateful that the state and city worked with us on finalizing and opening The Fountains so we could begin moving families into this new development and help a few New Yorkers out,” said Alex Arker, principal at Arker Companies. “This is just the first two of six buildings, and we look forward to celebrating many more families moving in here over the coming months.”

Each of the buildings also includes a portion of units reserved exclusively for households and individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These residents will have access to supportive services provided by Block Institute and rental subsidies through the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities.

The buildings were also designed to meet the standards of Energy Star Multifamily High Rise and Enterprise Green Communities programs to achieve maximum energy efficiency. Energy-efficient features include high-efficiency condensing boilers and heat pumps, Energy Star appliances, photo sensors, and timers to control outdoor lighting.

“Our aggressive approach to building new developments like The Fountains will provide high-quality, energy-efficient homes and supportive services to those who need them most as we continue to come back from this crisis,” said New York Governor Cuomo, whose office has devoted significant resources to the provision of affordable housing in Brooklyn. Known as the Vital Brooklyn initiative, the $1.4 billion effort is poised to create 4,000 affordable homes in Central Brooklyn’s neighborhoods.

The Arker Companies is working in collaboration with New York Empire State Development and Homes and Community Renewal to complete The Fountains. The final four buildings are expected to open by the end of 2020.

I have been trying to get an low income apartment for the last 20 yea, I work for the city for the lady 20 year, I was call for interview a few times, and I suppose to have a 5 % priority because I work for the city, but they always find something and deny the apartments, probably have to do with my age but I don’t have a way to prove. Probably you have a better change if you are young. For me is sad.

Please don’t be fooled people ive applied to these so called affordable housing only to receive a letter in the mail stating that I don’t make them minimum of 110k. I work for the city of New York my salary a year is 33k so please tell me how my salary doesn’t qualify for low income and how does 110k qualify for affordable low income. And if you look at the income guidelines for the amount of rent you would pay they only have maybe 2, 3 bedrooms apartments and 5, 2 bedroom apartments inside the whole building so please tell me how this is a fair affordable apartment lottery. I’ve found a 3 bedroom apartment in Albany, NY for 1300 you will never find anything in the five boroughs for that price ever.

  39. please send me application

I too would like to win the lottery. How about HPD holds a quarterly lottery for $1 million in every city council district using their allocated capital funds. If lottery is restricted to district residents then your chances of winning this lottery would be much greater than regular LOTTO. Oh and if you further restricted this only to people who VOTED in the last two local elections, I guarantee you voter participation would go to 100%.
