Pendry Manhattan West, a 21-story hotel tower, is getting ready to open its doors to guests this September at 440 West 33rd Street in the eight-acre Manhattan West development in Midtown West. Also known as Four Manhattan West in the five-building complex, the 281-foot-tall Pendry is designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and developed by Brookfield Properties and will yield 164 guest rooms and 30 suites featuring California-influenced designs by Gachot Studios. The structure will also house a Mediterranean-themed restaurant, a lounge, a 1,600-square-foot open-air bar, a 150-person ballroom, and 6,000 square feet of meeting and event spaces. This is the first Pendry Hotels & Resorts property in New York City.

Since our last update in January, most of the sidewalk barriers have been removed from the site.

Work is still finishing up on the main lobby, and temporary sidewalk barriers remain around the steps that lead up from the sidewalk to the main northern entrance. Landscaping and garden beds surround the ground floor and the pathways to the west that lead to the large public plaza at the center of the Manhattan West complex. The wavy glass facade easily catches and reflects the morning sunlight and distinguishes the building from its other glass-clad neighbors. Dark granite ribbons are interspersed between the floor-to-ceiling glass panels and further accentuate the dynamic façade.

The nearest subways to the hotel are the 7 train at the nearby 34th Street-Hudson Yards station, as well as the A, C, E, New Jersey Transit, Long Island Railroad, and Amtrak trains to the east at Pennsylvania Station.

The Pendry Manhattan West is expected to open this September. Reservations are now being accepted.

    Beautiful!

  2. They just have to clean up the rest of the neighborhood.

    • We know. Every. Post. We know. And (yawn).

    • You do realize this was all an empty rail yard area prior to construction, right? So of course it was a bad neighborhood and will continue to be until everything comes together.

  3. The Pendry Manhattan West Hotel is probably one of the finest new buildings in the whole City. Just look at that wavy glass curtain wall! I also love the little granite ribbons at each floor too. The base looks really good as well, especially with the landscaping around it. Phenomenal.

  4. Yeah that setback isnt weird at all. Thanks DOB.

This building is just beautiful, both in person and in photos. Really stunning and a great addition to the area. Good job!!

  6. Stunningly beautiful and graceful building. SOM hit it out of the park with this one. The glass curtain is so elegant – the color, the waviness, the level of transparency versus reflectiveness, it’s a winner on all counts. Can’t wait to see this one up close this weekend when I’m over there.

  7. This is a SOM blue ribbon winner! It sure doesn’t look like a SOM creation. It would be a beautiful residential condominium.

  8. Terrific
Excited for the continued transformation of this neighborhood
