This week, Smogasburg opened a new 300-seat outdoor venue at the Harborside commercial campus in Jersey City, joining Smorgasbar, which opened earlier this summer. The company’s premier outdoor destination in New Jersey now offers local craft beers, barbecue tacos, lobster rolls, and brick oven pizza. The debut is the latest in a flurry of announcements from developer Mack-Cali, which is quickly transforming the Harborside campus into a mixed-use destination for local residents and Manhattanites just a quick train or ferry ride away.
“We couldn’t be more excited to instill our new and unique energy into this amazing venue,” said Jonathan Butler, co-founder of Smorgasburg. “The Jersey City community has welcomed us with open arms, and we are thrilled to finally invite them back to the waterfront to relax at Smorgasbar.”
Smorgasbar is located at 3 Second Street and occupies Lutze Biergarten’s former outpost. The new beer garden will be open Monday through Thursday from 3pm to 10pm, Fridays from 3pm to midnight, Saturdays from noon to midnight, and Sundays from noon to 10pm.
Earlier this year, YIMBY showcased the first new renderings of Harborside 1, the campus’ anchoring development. Designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects, the building stands nine stories tall and comprises 423,000 square feet of commercial area, including a glass-enclosed atrium with a food hall and ample seating. Harborside 1 is anticipated to achieve LEED Gold certification.
“The repositioning of Harborside aligns well with our tenants’ return to work,” said Edward Guiltinan, Mack-Cali senior vice president of leasing. “In addition to providing first-class office space, we are fortunate to be able to offer wide-ranging amenities and outdoor space for our tenants to enjoy.”
