Construction is progressing on The Collection, an eight-story residential building at 401 West Street in Manhattan’s West Village. Designed by Thomas Juul Hansen and Hill West Architects and developed by Wainbridge Capital, the ten-unit project is being built by Vector Building Corporation on a relatively narrow plot between West 10th and Charles Streets along the Hudson River waterfront. Christopher Street Pier lies directly to the west.

Exterior work has progressed behind scaffolding since our last update in early June, when the reinforced concrete superstructure had just finished topping out. Since that time, the construction elevator has been dismantled and some of the scaffolding has been removed from the northern elevation.

The exposed northern party wall features a handful of narrow windows. We now have a clearer visual of the grid of windows facing Christopher Street Pier and the Hudson River. On the upper levels of The Collection are a couple of setbacks that will provide space for outdoor terraces.

The main rendering shows the envelope featuring a white color palette with five columns of dark window frames running up and down the height of the building. Below are exterior and interior renderings depicting the main lobby, the outdoor terrace space, indoor amenities, and the finishes for the kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms.

A revised completion date for The Collection has not been announced, as the on-site construction board still says winter 2020. YIMBY estimates the development will wrap up work and open in the latter half of next year.

  1. A big netted mob? No, this should look pretty nice.

  2. Is the Novogratz family compound still next door?

  3. they’re using cheap cinderblocks to build this and sell multi million dollar apartments to the ultra rich?
