Construction nears completion on 286 Wythe Avenue, a six-story residential building in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Fischer & Makooi Architects and developed by Wythe Holding LLC, the 70-foot-tall building will yield 82,458 square feet with 45 rental units, 13,302 square feet of retail space, a cellar level, and 23 enclosed parking spaces. YNH Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is bound by North 1st Street to the north, Grand Street to the south, and Wythe Avenue to the east.

Recent photos show the completed look of the upper levels, which feature an undulating white brick façade surrounding floor-to-ceiling windows and black paneling. The massing incorporates several setbacks for private terraces, as well as protruding balconies. The northern end of the property is still covered in an assembly of scaffolding and black netting, which should be dismantled soon.

The following close-up shots show the details in the brick surface and dark gray spandrels. The brick columns extend beyond the setbacks to form the individual parapets lined with the same dark metal railings seen on the balconies. The ground floor is still blocked by the wrap-around wooden fencing as crews assemble the floor-to-ceiling commercial frontage.

Residential amenities will include a fitness center, a lounge, a bike room, and an outdoor rooftop deck. The closest subway is the L train at the Bedford Avenue station.

286 Wythe Avenue is scheduled for completion in January 2023.

  1. It’s unusual to see an as-built project that is fancier than the renderings. The balconies help break up this very long building.

The rendering is wonderful. The result is not so much, with the now tacked on balcony ledges and chicken wire railings. An unfortunate mistake.

  3. Balconies shmalconies.

Too bad, it looked much better without them.

  4. So…many…angles.
