Permits have been filed to expand a three-story parking garage into an eight-story school at 528 West 162nd Street in Washington Heights, Manhattan. Located between Broadway and St. Nicholas Avenue, the lot is steps from the 163rd Street subway station, serviced by the C train. Gary Spindler of Park-It Management is listed as the owner behind the applications. WHIN Music Community Charter School is reported to have signed a $43.9 million construction loan with Build NYC for the site.
The proposed 118-foot-tall development will yield 52,383 square feet designated for community facility space. The steel-based building will also have a cellar and 20-foot-long rear yard, but will be eliminating the 126 parking spaces it currently has with the expansion.
Peter Gluck of Gluck+ is listed as the architect of record.
Demolition permits will likely not be needed as the project calls for an expansion. An estimated completion date has not been announced.

I hope they tear that ugly building down and build something nice.
The bones about the building is still good, so most likely their going to rehabilitate the lower half, then build up from there, no full demo.
It will fot in better than that new tower on 153rd, that’s for sure.
