Construction has topped out on 317-319 West 35th Street, a 25-story hotel building in Midtown’s Garment District. Designed by Peter Poon Architects and developed by Wei Hong Hu under the H Hotel LLC, the 249-foot-tall structure will yield 59,250 square feet with 166 hotel rooms, 3,399 square feet of commercial space, and three below-grade levels. Crosscity Construction Corporation is the general contractor for the property, which is located between Eighth and Ninth Avenues.

Work has progressed slowly since our last update in November 2021, when the reinforced concrete superstructure was approaching the halfway mark. Recent photos now show the building erected to its pinnacle and covered in scaffolding and black netting as work takes shape on the façade and window grid. The project incorporates the skeletons of two low-rise residential buildings into its base, and both have now been clad with a new envelope that is subtly visible above the sidewalk scaffolding. The largely blank eastern party wall appears complete, finished with a flat concrete surface that may be painted.

A finalized rendering still hasn’t been publicly released apart from the below image from the site, which bears very little resemblance to the current design.

It’s currently unclear what the tower’s exterior will be composed of, though it’s likely that it will incorporate floor-to-ceiling windows surrounded by metal paneling akin to other recent projects from Peter Poon’s workshop.

The closest subways to the site are the A, C, E, 1, 2, and 3 trains to the south beneath Penn Station.

317-319 West 35th Street’s completion date is posted for this upcoming winter, but sometime in 2024 is more likely.
