ArtBridge and The Durst Organization Unveil 600-Foot Public Mural and AR Experience at Halletts Point in Astoria, Queens

ArtBridge, in partnership with The Durst Organization, has revealed a 600-foot-long public mural and augmented reality experience along the edge of two rising developments at 20 and 30 Halletts Point in Astoria, Queens.

Created by multimedia artist Zeehan Wazed, “A City in Motion” depicts colorful visions of life in and around the neighborhood. When viewed through the Artvive app, the mural comes to life featuring abstracted dancers filmed at the the NYCHA Astoria Houses’ Hanac Cornerstone Community Center.

Wazed’s work will be on display until the buildings are completed in 2025.

“I grew up in Queens; my first exposure to visual art was seeing murals while taking the 7 train,” Wazed said. “I’m thrilled to introduce this new work at Halletts Point. Movement is a big inspiration for my work. When I saw the dance classes at the Hanac Cornerstone Community Center, I knew I wanted to incorporate the residents of the neighborhood into this piece so they could see themselves reflected in the art.”

Waterfront rendering of 20 and 30 Halletts Point

The exhibition is part of the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs’ City Canvas, an initiative that aims to beautify mundane structures around the city like fencing, scaffolding, and other temporary protective structures.

When complete, 20 and 30 Halletts Point will include 647 mixed-income apartments, retail businesses, and publicly accessible outdoor space along the Astoria waterfront. The entire Halletts Point masteplan will eventually comprise around 2,000 apartments.
