Permits have been filed for a four-story residential building at 157 Leonard Street in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Located between Stagg Street and Scholes Street, the lot is closest to the Broadway subway station, serviced by the G train and the Montrose Avenue station, serviced by the L train. Hershy Silberstein of Blue Shone Builders Inc. is listed as the owner behind the applications.
The proposed 40-foot-tall development will yield 4,624 square feet designated for residential space. The building will have seven residences, most likely rentals based on the average unit scope of 660 square feet. The concrete-based structure will also have a cellar and a 32-foot-long rear yard.
Diego Aguilera Architects is listed as the architect of record.
Demolition permits were filed in October 2023. An estimated completion date has not been announced.

Apparently it was used as a church. Action in Christ and sold 2 days ago for just under 4 million.
If you’re gonna raze a historic house of worship, at least go higher than 4 stories
Would love to see Williamsburg be dramatically upzoned…you can build more units than this by right in areas of deep Queens but can’t do more than 7 a few stops away from Manhattan?
It’s a balancing act. Yes some areas of W’burg could see significantly more density but others are extremely charming at the low-rise but dense scale they are.
Those areas would be more charming if more people could live in them! Low-rise zoning in Willliamsburg only preserves the mansions of the future as units get combined by newer, richer tenants.
