Construction has begun on a new four-story school building at 134-11 221st Street in Laurelton, Queens. The 60,000-square-foot structure will support the Merrick Academy Charter School’s growing K-8 program and is planned to accommodate 1,000 students.
Features will include a full-size gymnasium, a cafeteria, two rooftop playgrounds, a community center, and an outdoor garden. Construction is being managed by Barone Management LLC, and design is being led by a team from Loci Architecture, including David Briggs, Keita Takahashi, and Sheena Enriquez.
The property is a short walk from the Laurelton Long Island Rail Road station, which is served by the Far Rockaway Branch and Long Beach Branch trains.
Construction is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2026.

My sister was a teacher at a charter school for a while. She knows they are not the answer as they are profit driven by our tax dollars taken away from public schools. Destroying our public schools and installing private, religious schools is a main point of Project 2025. The wealthy elite love the uneducated for a reason.
