Bridging Access to Care, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing social services to underserved populations in New York City, recently celebrated the grand opening of a new service site at Flatbush Gardens in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. The new location will offer on-site support to residents transitioning from shelters to permanent housing. Flatbush Gardens yields 2,500 apartments across 59 buildings, primarily catering to low-income residents. The property is owned by Clipper Equity.

Bridging Access to Care’s new initiative focuses on engaging with individuals the day they move into their apartments after being referred by the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development’s Homeless Placement Unit. The organization will provide behavioral health screenings, chronic health care coordination, and other critical social services to the new tenants. These services aim to assist residents of 250 units designated for the Article XI Tax Incentive Program.

In addition to offering health screenings, BAC has implemented a Community Ambassador program that trains Flatbush Gardens residents to serve as primary points of contact for new tenants.

“Welcoming BAC into Flatbush Gardens is not only an innovative way to provide direct, much-needed support to our residents but also an exemplary partnership model we hope others choose to adopt in their residential communities,” said JJ Bistricer, partner and chief operating officer of Clipper Equity. “Having a BAC office directly within Flatbush Gardens is bringing the community together and improving the quality of life for our residents. We look forward to celebrating the grand opening of the new service site with our partners at BAC, as well as with Brooklyn borough president Antonio Reynoso and Council Member Farah Louis, both of whom we thank for their support on this meaningful initiative.”

Clipper Equity has donated office space to Bridging Access to Care, allowing the nonprofit to operate directly within the housing complex.
