Permits have been filed for a nine-story mixed-use building at 585 Jackson Avenue in Melrose, The Bronx. Located between East 149th Street and East 152nd Street, the lot is one block south of the Jackson Avenue subway station, served by the 2 and 5 trains. Yosef Beer is listed as the owner behind the applications.

The proposed 84-foot-tall development will yield 63,659 square feet, with 63,374 square feet designated for residential space and 285 square feet for commercial space. The building will have 80 residences, most likely condos based on the average unit scope of 792 square feet. The masonry-based structure will also have a 30-foot-long rear yard, 16 open parking spaces, and four enclosed parking spaces.

Nikolai Katz Architect is listed as the architect of record.

Demolition permits were filed in February for the two-story structure on the property. An estimated completion date has not been announced.

Looking forward to almost anything that can replace this building.

    • I’d be even more thrilled with anything that would replace the concrete lawn post-fires to the side… Well, not anything. Something better, that will fix a historical wrong.

  2. As a neighbor let me tell you, these people are working really fast, the outside structure is already done, and they are working heavily in the interior.

  3. As a sidenote, there’s been some nasty parapet mutilations in the immediate one block area in the past ten years. A couple nice Deco buildings met the mutilator as did a cool old cold storage warehouse.

I always wonder, do you think some of the masonry and decorative elements are kept in the cellar or on the roof on some of these mutilations or are they chucked in a dumpster like a vandalism by neanderthals?

  4. Hopefully they don’t build with any off road parking like on the left. I’m not a tree hugger but you sure don’t need a car when the 2/5 train is within walking distance and you can get groceries delivered by shipt and fast food via doordash.
