When the United Talmudic Seminary opened in 2006 at 74-10 88th Street, in the Glendale section of Queens, some residents were concerned about the increased traffic from buses arriving from South Williamsburg.
The traffic may soon be abating, though, because a new building permit application was just filed to construct a dormitory building on the same site, adjacent to the United Talmudic Seminary, in the little-known neighborhood of Glendale, wedged between Ridgewood, Middle Village, Forest Hills, and the various cemeteries that form the border with Brooklyn.
The filing calls for a 142,000-square foot community facility structure in the formerly industrial area, with a lobby, three classrooms, and offices on the ground level, topped by three stories of dorms, presumably for local yeshiva students (no unit count was given). The United Talmudic Seminary is associated with followers of Zalman Teitelbaum, one of the two Satmar grand rebbes, and the faction that’s dominant in South Williamsburg.

The building would reach 55 feet into the air, and would be designed by Mark Mariscal. Mariscal also designed the building currently rising at 177 Harrison Avenue in the Broadway Triangle, for the competing Aroni faction of the Satmar Hasidim.
