Construction is moving along quickly at 30 East 31st Street, in Midtown South, Manhattan. Builders are working on the 40-story high-rise, which will yield views of the Empire State Building and East River. Architect Morris Adjmi is responsible for the design, taking influence from surrounding Gothic architecture for the façade, and the structure is now over halfway to its parapet.

Steel columns rise vertically to the top, where they taper to create a diagrid pattern, reminiscent of a barrel-vaulted ceiling pattern.

Throwing back to YIMBY’s first coverage of the site in 2014, we reported that the lot would likely produce a 14-story condominium building. Now, construction is six floors taller than that, with the project expected to rise to an eventual height of 479 feet, yielding over 88,000 square feet of space within. The 38 condominiums will average just over 1,700 square feet apiece.

The building will become a prominent addition to the Midtown South skyline, adding the voice of a stylized crown and flat roof.

Ekstein Development is responsible for the project. Completion is likely by the end of 2019.
