Upcoming residential project 11 Greene Street is located in SoHo, at the corner of Greene Street and Canal Street. The building is being designed by Gwathmey Siegel Kaufman & Associates Architects and developed by Arch Companies. They took over the deal from Thor Equities and also secured a $45 million construction loan nearly one year ago. The development will eventually stand seven stories tall.
The site was once home to a corner parking lot and will soon contain 30 units. The ground floor will have new retail space while the seventh floor is set to have a mezzanine area. Floors two through six will be divided amongst lofty residential apartments. Recent photos show progress on construction as the perimeter prepares for the imminent installation of the curtain wall.
Even without the large windows and metal frame panels in yet, it is clear that the scale and proportion of windows and the height of each floor were mindfully designed to blend in within the historic neighborhood streetscape. The building features a steel structural frame. Work on the sixth floor is now underway, starting with the steel perimeter columns along the exterior facing Canal Street. There will be a thick and deep cornice line that will cap the roof of 11 Greene Street.
Completion of 11 Greene Street was expected to be last month, as stated on the construction poster. But sometime by the end of the year seems more likely at this point.
