Work is nearing completion on Extell’s Brooklyn Point, number 26 on YIMBY’s countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in the city. The 68-story, 720-foot-tall skyscraper, which is also addressed as 138 Willoughby Street, is designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and is part of the third and final phase of the City Point complex in Downtown Brooklyn. SLCE Architects is serving as the architect of record, while Katherine Newman is designing the interior spaces. A total of 458 units, ranging from studio to three-bedroom units, will be created.
Brooklyn Point topped out in early 2019 and the western hemisphere’s highest residential infinity pool was installed in two large pieces earlier this summer. The curtain wall is nearly finished, with some exterior pieces near the ground floor yet to be completed. The reinforced concrete superstructure will briefly hold the title as Brooklyn’s current tallest skyscraper.
Amenities inside the building will span an impressive 40,000 square feet, typical of Extell’s large-scale projects in New York City. Components will include al fresco dining facilities, changing rooms, showers, and a outdoor movie screen. An indoor health and wellness center on the podium floors will contain a 65-foot-long indoor saltwater pool, a 35-foot-high indoor rock climbing wall, a yoga studio, a pilates and cycling studio, a squash and basketball court, a spa with an infrared sauna, men’s and women’s steam rooms, and a hot tub. The infinity pool will only be open from spring to fall.
Brooklyn Point is expected to be finished and open to residents in early 2020. Prices for the homes start at $850,000.
