Permits have been filed for a six-story commercial building at 215 West 42nd Street in Times Square. Located between Seventh Avenue and Eighth Avenue, the interior lot is minutes from the 42nd Street subway hub, serviced by the 1, 2, 3, 7, A, C, E, N, Q, R, W, and S trains. NYC Economic Development Corporation is listed as the owner behind the applications.
The proposed 138-foot-tall development will yield 52,521 square feet, with 34,313 square feet designated for commercial space. The steel-based structure will also have a cellar.

Beyer Blinder Belle is listed as the architect of record.
The Times Square Theater currently sits on the site and plans on the Beyer Blinder Belle site call for a renovation creating four floors of retail space along with a restoration of the theater’s historical elements such as the classic proscenium arch, plaster dome, and decorative sgraffito frieze. The 42nd Street façade will be lifted up five feet to create higher ceilings, a cantilevered second floor will offer views of the busy street, and double-height third and fourth floors will house the relocated proscenium arch, sail vault, and dome. The $100 million redevelopment project is developed by real estate company Stillman Development International.

Beyer Blinder Belle’s site gives a 2020 deadline, however no updated timeline has been announced with the permit filing.
Partial demolition permits were filed in July 2019.
