Construction has topped out at 30 West 39th Street, a 300-room hotel in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Peter Poon Architects and developed by Fortuna Realty, the 27-story reinforced concrete structure stands 323 feet tall and spans 133,500 square feet. Leeding Builders Group, LLC is the general contractor for the project.
Recent photos reveal how quickly the structure progressed since YIMBY’s last update in mid January, when construction had just passed the podium. Now the topped-out building has almost its entire curtain wall installed on the main northern elevation.
The rendering above previously depicted a bright gold envelope, but luckily the actual façade is composed of more traditional blue-tinted glass. The primary sections awaiting completion are the podium levels and the final upper floors, which are rendered with distinctive oval-shaped cutouts behind which will sit a proposed rooftop bar. Other amenities include a ground-floor restaurant, a lounge, a fitness center, and a business center. The setbacks near street level will come with landscaped outdoor space. The closest subways to the site are the B, D, F, M, and 7 trains at the 42nd Street-Bryant Park station.
YIMBY previously reported that 30 West 39th Street would finish by this fall, though sometime in the first half of 2021 seems more likely.

That rendering is the most ridiculous and most ugly rendering I’ve ever seen. In reality, 30 West 39th Street looks quite allright.
Yeah… the glass is yellow? So weird. Glad that the building at least looks normal in reality.
It looks like a joke rendering.
The only thing the rendering lacks is an Ed Wood – type flying saucer on a string.
Well, that’s not very good now, is it?
Standards continue to drop, with developers choosing between SLCE, Gene Kaufman and Peter Poon.

I’m old enough to remember when the 50 story Americana opened; muted yellow. It fit. But if this building is going to be yellow as in the rendering, it’s atrocious. It’s like the Marriott in Times Square – “Houston, Texas.” This one would fit in “Miami Beach, Florida.”
I particularly like those 30-foot-tall people on the roof.

What is the story about all these hotels renting out their suites to the homeless on the Upper Westside and forcing people to move out of their apartment. If it wasn’t for the community sharing this information about buses coming late in the night dropping them off and the people who live in these communities are leaving because of the huge increase in crime. Example: the woman who was stabbed in the back by a stranger as she walked to the subway to purchasea metrocard.
As you talk about all thes luxury hotel coming up, you fail to talk about the luxury hotels already up and not able to rent to tourist because they are not coming to America as before due to the pandemic. Why not talk about the issues with these hotel from the Upper Westside down to the lower midtown hotel that are taking anything and everything to keep afloat.
Unfair of your to only talk about the rich developer and not speak the truth to the citizen of Manhattan.
Just have to laugh when renderings show flocks of birds… for me as a bird control consultant for architectural design, it’s amusing. Then I see how reflective (mirrored) the glazing is and I think about how many birds will crash into this building!
