VonDalwig Architecture has successfully petitioned the Landmarks Preservation Commission to permit the construction of a single-story penthouse expansion at 405 Vanderbilt Avenue in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Following feedback from the commissioners in the fall, the design team reduced the peak height of the volume’s sloped roof by almost two feet, selected a lighter-colored zinc façade, and raised the existing parapet and chimneys by three rows of brick.

The architects will also construct a series of photovoltaic panels to improve energy performance.

The interior of the penthouse will include a new master bedroom, lounge areas, a central patio with a large overhead skylight, and outdoor terraces at both the front and rear of the volume.

As previously reported by YIMBY, the existing residential building was constructed in the early 1900s and has seen minimal exterior alterations since that time. The façade is primarily composed of red brick masonry with traditional double-paned windows and a large arched entry. The two-story townhouse was purchased in 2014 by actors Carmen Ejogo and Jeffrey Wright, according to recent public records.

At this time it is not clear when construction might begin.
