Façade work is progressing quickly on 18 Sixth Avenue, a 49-story residential skyscraper in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. Designed by Perkins Eastman and developed by The Brodsky Organization and Greenland Forest City Partners, the 532-foot-tall, 740,000-square-foot building will yield 858 rental units, of which 258 will be dedicated to affordable housing. The property sits directly adjacent to Barclays Center and is bound by Atlantic Avenue to the north and the corner of Sixth Avenue and Pacific Street to the east. 18 Sixth Avenue is the tallest building in the 22-acre Pacific Park master plan and will eventually be joined by a corridor of future buildings running down Atlantic Avenue over the train tracks to the east.

Recent photographs show a considerable amount of progress since our last update in November, when the reinforced concrete superstructure was approaching topping out. Since then, the skyscraper has reached its final height, the yellow safety cocoon has been removed, and the glass curtain wall has risen to around the midway point on the upper half of the structure. The flat and straight edges of the floor plates have made the assembly progress fairly rapid. The low-rise mechanical extension over the roof parapet looks like it will be enclosed in dark paneling as depicted in the main rendering.

Overall the Pacific Park complex will bring a total of 15 new buildings to the Prospect Heights neighborhood, yielding 6,430 residential units, with 2,250 being affordable, along with new offices, retail space, and an eight-acre Thomas Basely-designed public plaza. The adjacent Barclays Center and subterranean Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center subway station services the 2, 3, 4, 5, B, D, N, Q, and R trains, while the Atlantic Terminal and its Long Island Railroad trains are conveniently located across the street to the north.
18 Sixth Avenue first started construction in April 2019 and is slated for completion in early 2022.

I want to love to live here!This is such a beautiful building and this is the area I frequent constantly! I rather spend my monies in this area any day! One day I will live in this building or a building just like it!I’m Soo proud to live in Brooklyn and happy that this area is prosperous and successful! This bui will add revenue to Brooklyn!
The overall sculptural form of the building is quite appealing, but the sleekness of the facade isn’t as successful as the rendering implies. All-glass facades generally don’t look as good with residential buildings where operable windows are needed. The clunky window frames of this building aren’t as bad as Herzog & de Meuron’s 56 Leonard Street, but they do unfortunately draw the eye to them.
Yes the awkward window frames are conveniently missing in the rendering. It’s not a good look.
The frames are in the rendering if you expand it, just not prominently. The realized frames do look value-engineered and detract somewhat from an otherwise handsome building.
Agreed. This is probably the biggest disappointment with this building. It’s almost cheap looking sadly.
At least the shape is nice, and the glass isn’t too bad actually. I still consider 18 Sixth Avenue to be the best building of the Pacific Park complex.
I don’t mind the window frames, they add something, they remind me of an electronic scoreboard. Or maybe the disappointment that they caused me with Leonard Street has softened me up.
Why don’t more of these residential buildings add balconies? It’s such a value adding feature.
