Construction is complete on The Willoughby, a 34-story mixed-use tower at 196 Willoughby Street on Long Island University‘s Downtown Brooklyn campus. Designed by Perkins Eastman and developed by RXR Realty, the structure yields 476 residential units as well as academic and office spaces, an adjacent athletic field, and parking for 564 vehicles. Hunter Roberts Construction Group served as the general contractor for the project, which is bound by Willoughby Street to the north, Ashland Place to the east, DeKalb Avenue to the south, and Flatbush Avenue Extension to the west.

Recent photos show the completed look of the structure and its curtain wall of floor-to-ceiling glass and metal paneling. Leasing is currently underway for the units, which range from studios to two-bedroom layouts.

The entrance and exit to the enclosed garage sits below the elevated athletic field next to the eastern elevation of The Willoughby. Access can be found on Ashland Place next to the retail frontage.

Residential amenities at The Willoughby include a fitness center, business and lounge areas, a dog spa and exterior dog run, garage, a media room, a concierge, and an outdoor terrace with cooking and seating areas that look out over the Downtown Brooklyn and Manhattan skylines. Homes are outfitted with washers and dryers, dishwashers, Caesarstone countertops, name-brand appliances and finishes, air conditioning, and walnut oak floors.

At first, I was very skeptical of The Willoughby. I thought it looked very cheap for many different reasons. However, now that is done, I actually quite like it. The glass is very sleek with its dark blue hue and the grey accents are pretty nice too. Overall, I think this a very fine design.
Well the glass looks nothing like the rendering, I’ll give you that.
Extend beyond a surface, that is stand on its feet. It was a prominent to part of the design, maintain beautiful looks and keep the show on course: Thanks to Michael Young.
The entrance is the best part.
