The latest renderings of Brookfield’s Manhattan West project show some modifications to the design, with a bonus look at an apparently re-vamped Daily News Headquarters as well.

The Brookfield towers have always been shown as boxes, which may actually just be placeholders for the moment. With the increasing competition when it comes to design, it would make sense for Brookfield to offer some challenge to Related’s next-door Hudson Yards development.
The Hudson Yards project has an iconic and striking master-plan, with three towers set to top 1,000 feet.
Although the renderings paints two enormous glass boxes, there’s definitely a possibility the final designs will be much different and much more aesthetically pleasing. Given their location east of Related’s project, Brookfield has even more incentive to raise the roof on their own towers, as Hudson River views are quite desirable.
The worst part of the project is the refurbished 450 West 33rd Street, which is the current headquarters of the Daily News. The hulking structure is one of the largest buildings in Manhattan, and dominates the area despite only rising twenty-odd floors.

If demolished, a structure rising in the building’s place could contain roughly 3 million square feet of space given the air rights. That would make it one of New York’s largest office buildings, potentially rivaling the Empire State Building in terms of square footage.
