Work is speeding up on 432 Park Avenue, and it’s been over three weeks since the last construction accident. The core is up to the eighth floor, while the exterior forms are up to the sixth. The next few floors will be double-height, marking the interior’s transition from building amenities to actual residences.
Unfortunately, the concrete exterior remains streaked with grey markings. The sunlight-activated curing process may have been hampered by the never-ending winter and the shadows of Midtown’s man-made canyons, however, it has been two months since the first floor’s walls were poured and there has been no recent improvement. Hopefully the concrete will whiten with age, but the likelihood of the facade matching the renderings is decreasing.
Perhaps the 1,398′ albatross will feature splotchy concrete, a true gift to the people of New York. Given the huge windfall the developers are already receiving, the facade could easily be covered in some sort of varnish or laminate if the concrete does turn out ugly—at least, hopefully.
