Construction Update: Fordham Lincoln Center

Fordham Lincoln CenterFordham Lincoln Center Expansion

Fordham Lincoln Center’s new building is looking great, and the future law school and dormitory is just about complete. The exterior is finished besides a ribbon of facade that’s missing on the side that faces 62nd Street, and the result is phenomenal – the lower portion, which will hold the law school, resonates nicely with Lincoln Center, as the non-glass cladding on Fordham’s building is also limestone.

The dormitory portion is slightly less charismatic than lower levels, as glass is much more prominent; still, Lincoln Center is a low-rise institution, so the deviation in cladding is appropriate as the tower rises in height. At street level, the similarity between the new building and Lincoln Center’s limestone is obvious and appreciated, with the Fordham expansion clearly striving for contextuality.

The new school is expected to open in 2014, which is when demolition of the former law school is set to begin – the old building is in the last photo, pictured above. The original Fordham Law will be replaced by the University’s continued expansion, which will see several additional towers rise as part of the overall campus redevelopment. Though the plan is far from finished, Fordham Lincoln Center already has significantly more room to grow.
