Living Cities is a design competition over at Metropolis Magazine that asks one question: How are we going to accommodate one million New Yorkers by the year 2040? As YIMBY supports new development – and creating additional affordable housing – the competition is a great way of discovering possible solutions to New York’s housing issues.
The competition is being co-presented by the Steel Institute and Ornamental Metal Institute of New York, and contestants are asked to “share their vision of multi-use residential towers for the 21st century. All proposals must use a steel structural system, be 30 to 40 stories, and be sited within the five boroughs of New York.”
Participation is open to professionals and students in architecture and engineering, and the winning prize is $10,000; submissions (to [email protected]) are due by January 3rd. YIMBY encourages participation, as the ideas of today can solve the problems of tomorrow – and the results are sure to be revealing.
Any other design-contest submissions are also welcome; see below for contact information.
