A slew of affordable housing projects are headed for an industrial slice of the central Bronx sandwiched between the Cross Bronx Expressway and the elevated subway tracks. The latest development to join the list is a 10-story affordable residential building at 1880 Boston Road, in a long-neglected neglected neighborhood known as West Farms.
Alma Realty, which is known for its massive Astoria Cove project in Queens, is heading up to the Bronx. Last week, the Long Island City-based developer filed plans for an eight-story, mixed-use building in the West Farms section of the borough.
Last fall, DNAinfo reported Lambert Houses, a sprawling subsidized housing project in the West Farms section of the Bronx, would be demolished and replaced with new affordable housing. Now, those plans are coming to fruition, and new building applications have been filed for 18 stories of apartments at 984 East 180th Street.
Yesterday was a busy day for permits in the west central Bronx. First, plans were filed for a supportive housing development in Crotona Park East, and then new building applications surfaced for a seven-story market-rate project a few blocks north in West Farms.
A forlorn industrial area next to the Cross Bronx Expressway in West Farms may finally see new life, now that plans have been filed for a large affordable housing development there. Prolific affordable developer Monadnock Construction hopes to build a 15-story mixed-use building at 1905 West Farms Road, near the Bronx River and P.S. 214.
