Chinatown Landmark At 66 Allen Street To Be Restored, Converted

The Landmarks Preservation Commission has given approval for the partial conversion and refurbishment of a portion of a landmark building in Chinatown. The building in question is 66 Allen Street (a.k.a. 315 Grand Street). Though the upper office floors will all become residential, totaling eight units, the existing ground floor retail will be retained. The approval was granted at the LPC’s session on Tuesday.

Renovation Underway At Three-Story Mixed-Use Property At 61 Canal Street, Chinatown

Property owner Lily Wang is renovating the three-story mixed-use property at 61 Canal Street, in Chinatown, Bowery Boogie reports. The 8,856 square-foot building will retain the same square-footage, although its 2,143 square feet of ground-floor retail will receive a gut rehabilitation. The Cheng Chio Buddhist Temple occupies the upper two floors and will remain in the building after the renovation. Sugnam Chang’s Brooklyn-based Basic Groups Corp. is the applicant of record, and completion is expected in late 2016.

20-Story, 229-Key Joie de Vivre Hotel Tops Out At 50 Bowery, Chinatown

This past July, the 20-story, 229-key Joie de Vivre hotel under construction at 50 Bowery, in Chinatown, was at the 17th floor and receiving its first glass panels. Now, the building is topped out, and glass is nearing the top of the structure, per Bowery Boogie. Commune Hotel & Resorts is developing, and Peter Poon Architects is designing. The building is expected to open in the spring of 2016.

Four-Story Property At 112 Bowery Getting Full Commercial Conversion, Chinatown

An anonymous LLC’s four-story townhouse at 112 Bowery, in Chinatown, is now receiving a small expansion to 7,300 square feet, according to Bowery Boogie. The building is being converted into an entirely commercial property, with retail space on the ground floor and office/storage space on the upper levels. Zhu Heng Zheng’s Interamericana Engineering is the applicant of record, and completion is likely by 2016.
