Supertall Two Bridges Towers Awarded Major Victory Over NIMBYs in New York Appellate Court Decision

The New York Appellate Court ruled in favor of a group of developers, including JDS Development Group, CIM Group, L+M Development Partners, and Starrett Corporation, to build four more towers along the Two Bridges waterfront on the Lower East Side. One Manhattan Square, a similarly-scoped neighbor, was completed in early 2019, and stands alone as the rest of development came to a halt despite approvals from the City Planning Commission in 2016. Yesterday, the ruling found the buildings described in the applications did not conflict with applicable zoning requirements, with all four Judges siding against Manhattan Borough president Gale A. Brewer and the New York City Council, which challenged the approval in 2018, arguing that the new construction required special permits and had to go through the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) process.

LPC Reviews Updated Proposals for Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank’s Museum Transformation, in Civic Center

The Landmarks Preservation Commission will again review proposals to partially renovate the ground floor of the historic Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank. The building is located at 49-51 Chambers Street in the Civic Center and could eventually house an immersive digital museum and gallery with rotating exhibitions.

Demo Permits Filed for 63 Pitt Street on the Lower East Side

Full demolition permits have been filed for 63 Pitt Street on the Lower East Side. According to the filing, the site is owned by Damien Smith under the 63 Pitt Street LLC and currently houses a five-story residential building with 16 units. The 55-foot-tall structure was built in 1920.

Construction Wraps on 165 Chrystie Street on the Lower East Side

Construction is wrapping up on 165 Chrystie Street, a ten-story residential building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Designed by Architecture Only and developed by Nortco and Nexus Development, the reinforced concrete structure stands on the west side of Sara D. Roosevelt Park between Delancey Street and Rivington Street. Sales is handled by Nest Seekers led by Ryan Serhan, with marketing handled by CORE. Layouts include six through-floor simplex units, a duplex townhouse with a private rear yard, and a triplex penthouse with a private rooftop.
