Permits have been filed for an eight-story residential building at 246 Echo Place, in The Bronx’s Mount Hope neighborhood. The development will rise just a block away from the Tremont Avenue station, serviced by the B and D trains, and four blocks away from the Tremont Station, serviced by Metro-North. SKF Development is responsible for the project.
In between the 4 train’s 176th Street stop and the B and D trains’ stop at 174-175th St Station, in the Bronx’s Mount Hope neighborhood, new building applications have been filed for a sizable project that will have a total construction area of almost 110,000 square feet. That will be divided between a community facility component of 8,479 square feet, to be used by a basketball court and gymnasium on the ground floor, and 88,996 square feet of residential space, to be split between 103 units. With an average unit size of about 850 square feet, rentals are likely. The structure will rise 14 floors in all, and Aufgang Architects is designing, while Procida Companies is the developer.
A pair of 12-story affordable rental buildings are coming to two blocks in Mount Hope, in the central Bronx. Developer Thorobird Companies is planning to construct the two buildings at 225 East 179th Street and 220 East 178th Street, a block apart between Anthony Avenue and Grand Concourse.
The west central Bronx has long been known for abandoned properties and deep poverty, and construction of the Cross Bronx Expressway only pushed many of these neighborhoods further into blight and disinvestment. But now, savvy affordable and market-rate developers are training their gaze on Mount Hope and Tremont.
