The Bushwick residential boom is quickly spreading north into Ridgewood, and today YIMBY has a look at a small project under construction just over the border between Brooklyn and Queens, at 1728 Himrod Street.
Flatiron District-based Rosin & Associates, headed by Max Rosin, has filed applications for a four-story, eight-unit residential building at 230 Boerum Street, in East Williamsburg, located three blocks south of the Montrose Avenue stop on the L train. The new structure will measure 5,553 square feet in total and its residential units will average 648 square feet apiece, indicative of rental apartments. There will be two units per floors, although one of the fourth-floor units will feature a fifth-floor penthouse. Alexander Stoltz’s Brooklyn-based SA-DA Architecture is the architect of record. The 25-foot-wide lot is currently vacant.
Very few new manufacturing buildings have risen in the low-slung area around the Gowanus Canal, but one developer is turning the tide with plans for a 13-story industrial project at 148 Third Street, between the Third Street Bridge and the canal.
As we have reported, the Landmarks Preservation Commission is in the process of dealing with the backlog of 95 items that have been on its calendar since before 2010, some for decades. That process took a big step forward Tuesday, with 30 sites remaining on the calendar as priorities for designation vote by the end of 2016. Five sites were removed from the calendar for lack of merit.
Three of the city’s top officials in transportation, housing, and economic development laid out the details of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s controversial plan to build a streetcar line along the waterfront from Sunset Park, Brooklyn to Astoria, Queens during a meeting with reporters on Friday.
