Construction is nearly finished on 432 Park Avenue, the tallest residential building in the Western hemisphere. Five open-air mechanical floors on the 1,396-foot-tall skyscraper will be lit every day at sunset starting Monday, and we have photos of the display.
Yesterday was ‘Archmodel Wednesday’ on Instagram, which meant that YIMBY Forumers were actively posting images of several new developments. And in the background of an image containing SHoP’s 111 West 57th Street, our team of cyber-sleuths spotted another project that has not yet been revealed. 80 South Street’s massing diagram had alluded to the tower’s supertall potential, but now we have a look at an actual model of the building, though the fine-grained details remain fuzzy, which confirms that the tower will rise over 1,400 feet tall. That would make it the tallest building by roof height in Lower Manhattan, standing approximately 50 feet above the rooftop of One World Trade Center.
On Friday, we brought you an update on construction of 220 Central Park South, now quickly rising over the park. However, what’s behind it will eventually eclipse it. We’re talking about 217 West 57th Street, officially known as Central Park Tower and dubbed Nordstrom Tower by YIMBY.
It’s been a few months since we last checked in on the Robert A.M. Stern Architects-designed 116-unit residential project going up at 220 Central Park South. Back in February, the tower portion had risen to about 15 stories. Now, as seen in photos supplied to YIMBY by photographer Tectonic, the tower has risen past 25 stories, on its way to 70, with more of the Alabama Silver Shadow limestone cladding in place.
Residents of Upper Manhattan, particularly Washington Heights and Inwood, will soon see something new rising across the Hudson River. On Monday, groundbreaking was held for the second tower at rental development The Modern, located just a bit south of the George Washington Bridge at 100 Park Avenue in Fort Lee.
