Equipment is now on-site at Simon Development’s 11 East 31st Street, and it appears that excavation for the new hotel has finally begun. SDG’s website has a rendering of the project, which will rise 33 floors and contain 260 hotel rooms—though the image isn’t all that detailed, what’s being built is clearly much better than the alternative possibility of a Kaufman.
Thompson Hotels are being brought on as the hospitality partner, so the building’s ultimate occupant should be high-end. The NoMad neighborhood is booming with small-scale activity, and another hotel at 32 West 29th Street is also getting underway.
