Details have been few and far between for the new apartment building at 325 Lexington Avenue, but the residential tower is finally closing in on completion. The project went through several iterations, and initially looked quite interesting as Studio Dror was expected to be the architect – unfortunately that ended up not being the case, and the actual design is a simple glass box.
Per The Real Deal, the developer is Times Square Construction & Development, and the architect is H. Thomas O’Hara. 325 Lexington rises a total of 31 stories, and is totally unnoticeable on the skyline – unless one happens to be in the immediate vicinity.
The building’s cladding is actually quite nice, though it is a boring glass box – except for the southern side, which remains a raw, concrete wall. Lexington Avenue has been relatively ignored when it comes to new development, but 325 Lexington is the first of several residential towers that will soon rise in the vicinity.
Most new construction is on the West Side, but with the Midtown East re-zoning imminent, Murray Hill will likely see a renewed surge in residential construction, given the enormous amount of office space that will rise nearby.
Construction of 325 Lexington Avenue should be finished by the end of 2013, and – per DOB permits, which also show a stop-work order – the building has a total of 105 units.
