Construction Update: 11 North Moore

Forms for 11 North Moore Street are now at the building’s first level, a marked change from the June update, when the site was an open pit and foundation work was just beginning. The building will rise nine floors, with nineteen units; the project’s architects are Adjmi + Andreoli, and the eventual design will be subdued, contextual, and – most of all – luxurious.

11 North Moore is adjacent to a disused subway stop, which seems to not have been a design factor – an appropriate decision given the building’s uber-luxury cache, but disappointing when other new luxury buildings like 400 Park Avenue South can integrate subway entrances to enormous aesthetic benefit. The scale of the two buildings is incomparable, but city-induced FAR bonuses for projects that do incorporate architecturally noteworthy subway entrances should become standard, and would be an easy way to improve the pedestrian experience across Manhattan.

Completion of 11 North Moore is expected in the spring of 2014.
