New York’s first CitizenM Hotel is closing in on its opening, and the latest photos from YIMBY readers Dave & Ava show work on the project coming to a close. Black paneling has risen along the building’s lot-line walls, removing the banality that was, and rendering 218 West 50th Street an incognito part of the cityscape. The CitizenM blends into New York’s vast sea of urbanity, and at only 22 floors, it’s barely noticeable.
The building’s construction elevators have come down in recent weeks, and additional infrastructure has been added to the water tank podium that sits above the hotel. The rendered billboard – which would cover the water tanks in an enormous ‘I <3 CM’ box – remains missing in action, leaving the rooftop elements temporarily exposed.
Interior work is also wrapping up, and the photo set shows furniture arriving for installation in the hotel rooms – the power of a zoom lens! Per CitizenM’s website, the hotel will be opening this fall.
