Glass is almost finished at The Baccarat Tower, which is nearing completion; the building rises 46 floors, and stands just over 600 feet tall. Besides the windows, it seems as though progress on cladding the lot-line walls in black is also about to begin, as formwork is visible on both sides of the building.
Designed by SOM, the tower will house a hotel on lower floors, and luxury residences above. While the building is a major addition to 53rd Street, replacing the former Donnell Library, it will soon be followed by a much larger neighbor – the MoMA’s Torre Verre, which will rise across the street. The Baccarat Tower’s official address is 20 West 53rd Street, and it will be completed next year.
