Yet another new hotel is rising in Midtown West, this time at 323 West 35th Street. The architect is Peter Poon, and permits indicate the new building will rise 25 floors and 250 feet; there is no word on a hotel partner, but Landmark Realty LLC is the site’s developer.
323 West 35th Street will have 150 rooms, and the building is configured in a relatively benign manner; at the very least, the street-wall will actually be improved, given the site was previously occupied by a one-story parking garage. Unlike many of Poon’s projects, the structure’s lower floors will be flush with adjacent buildings, and the tower portion only recedes from the street after the seventh level.
With equipment now on-site and excavation having begun, construction is now underway. Signage on-site was lacking, but a completion date of early 2015 would be a good estimate – and the neighborhood certainly needs more development, as the block’s dominating presence is an overbearing NYPD station.
