The East Bronx neighborhood of Soundview is about to get a new school.
Yesterday, a permit was filed on behalf of the New York City School Construction Authority for P.S. 317, a new five-story school at 1028 White Plains Road, just north of the Bruckner Expressway.
The total construction area of the building will be nearly 69,000 square feet, of which 54,000 square feet will count towards zoning. Each floor, from the lobby to the fifth, will have classrooms and offices. According to the Schedule A filing, the basement will have locker rooms, the first floor will have a kitchen and cafeteria, the second floor will have a multipurpose auditorium/gym, the third and fourth floors will have common areas, and the fourth floor will have some kind of roof garden.
The land, which includes 200 feet of frontage on White Plains Road, was purchased by the city late last year from Mount Vernon-based Seven Square Development, LLC, for $1.95 million.
The architect is listed as Paulus, Sokolowski and Sartor, a firm based in Warren, New Jersey, with a lot of experience designing education projects.
