Last month, piling began at the site of the 630-foot-tall New York Wheel, at 155 Richmond Terrace, in Staten Island’s St. George. Now cranes have arrived to assist construction, per the Staten Island Advance. Construction of a 950-space parking garage and the Wheel’s foundation is currently underway, and according to Commercial Observer, parts for the main structure will arrive in February of 2016. Skanska is building the foundation, and Starneth BV is designing.
Roughly 315,000 square feet of retail space will also be located at the Ferris Wheel’s base in a three-story building. Perkins Eastman is designing that component. Completion is expected in the first half of 2017, along with Empire Outlets, also in St. George.
