A six-story residential building might grow on the corner of Classon Avenue and St. Johns Place in western Crown Heights. New building applications were filed yesterday for a 65-foot-tall development at 794 Classon Avenue, right near the border with Prospect Heights.
The project will bring 41 apartments to a part of the neighborhood that’s already booming with construction. A few hundred feet east on St. Johns Place, Heritage Equity Group and Rabsky Group are developing an eight-story, 193-unit building. And a few blocks north, the eight-story rental at 505 St. Marks Avenue is nearly complete.
794 Classon will host 27,524 square feet of residential space, for relatively small average units of 671 square feet. Six apartments and a lobby will occupy the first floor, topped by seven units each on the remaining five stories.
There would be recreation space and storage for 22 bikes in the cellar, as well as parking for 22 cars.
Engineer Julien Flander filed the permits, and St Johns Associates LLC, based in Gerritsen Beach, is listed as the developer. The LLC picked up the 9,700-square-foot property for an undisclosed amount in 2000. The vacant lot is currently used for parking, and back in the 70s and 80s, it was home to a four-story, four-unit brick apartment building.
But the big development news yesterday in Crown Heights was the Bedford Union Armory, which is being redeveloped into a 13-story rental building, condos, and a large recreation center.
