Permits have been filed for a five-story public school at 45 Waverly Place in Clifton, Staten Island. The site is five blocks away from the Sobel Court Park, and eight blocks away from the Stapleton public playground. The NYC School Construction Authority will be responsible for the development.
The 58-foot tall structure will yield 84,550 square feet for the community facility. The building will include a cafeteria with capacity for 250, classrooms, and a gymnasium.
While whatever the NYC School Construction Authority will put up is almost certain to be unattractive, it will certainly be better looking for the neighborhood than the existing derelict commercial building surrounded by barbed wire.
Demolition permits for the existing former warehouse have not been filed yet. The estimated completion date has not been announced.
