Governor Andrew Cuomo recently celebrated the groundbreaking of a new affordable housing complex for seniors in the village of Nanuet in Rockland County. Known as Vincent’s Village, the development will include 93 residences spread across three individual buildings.

“Affordable and supportive senior housing is critical to reducing homelessness in communities across the State,” Governor Cuomo said. “These homes for seniors will deliver on-site services to residents, ensuring safe and healthy homes and enhancing the quality of life for some of our most vulnerable New Yorkers.”

The apartments at Vincent’s Village will be marketed as rental units for senior households at or below 60 percent of the area’s median income. Available units will include a mix of 81 one-bedroom apartments and 12 two-bedroom apartments. About 40 percent of those apartments will be set aside for “frail elderly households.”

On-site amenities will include a fitness room, a computer room, and support services including health monitoring, care coordination and case management, counseling, and social activities.

“Vincent’s Village will provide Rockland County with desperately needed affordable senior housing,” said New York State Assemblyman Kenneth Zebrowski. “Our senior citizens who helped in building Rockland into the community it is today should be able to continue living here and Vincent’s Village will help in providing that opportunity.”

The project team includes The Sisters of Charity Housing Development, a local non-profit organization, and Rockabill Development, a for-profit entity that specifically partners with non-profits on the development of affordable housing projects.

  1. Please pardon me for using your space: Slag, slain, slake, slam, slang, slant, slap, slated. Find it! (Hello YIMBY)

  2. Urbanism in the US is dead.

  3. I can’t believe complexes like this are still being built. Thoughtlessness at its crescendo.

  4. As above comment says, it seems a move backward to relegate seniors to an isolated complex, no matter the amenities. Aging already isolates one, from work life, old friends, the young, while perhaps also curtailing driving. One’s health can bring limitations not ever imagined, though “in good shape for your age,” disallowing so much taken for granted. Appointment with a bus or car service, are not like stepping out the door so to speak, to the world.

I totally AGREE with you. I am looking at senior housing right now, and can’t believe how depressing it feels at the thought of living the rest of my life trapped on a SENIOR ISLAND, in a fixed, quiet isolated location. HELP!

I know it will shorten my life trapped in an environment (a graveyard), lacking the constant flow of life’s energy. The actual energy that surrounds, children, animals, people talking and laughing, traffic “the essence of life”. Perrish the thought!

Try a localized walkable location or at least with a public bus line available. Seems out of the way to me but nice thought anyway. I’m local since before the TZ went up ( not the Mario ) so I know the property and it’s history. Close but no cigar I feel. dP

  6. Would love for my mom to sell her house (that she is no longer able to maintain or afford) and move I to St. Cincent’s Village

  11. How do you get in touch with the management office?

  12. I disagree with above comments that Senior Housing is a step backwards, and isolating. Seniors can socialize with like age group, create their own community of activities, like cards, crafts, socializing. It has a gym, community room, computer room, etc. It is needed for those of us who can no longer maintain or afford our homes in Rockland County, and still keep our independence. Senior Housing gives us an opportunity to downsize and socialize with like tenants.

  13. I have the application. My email is [email protected]

I’ve already put in my application and am eagerly waiting for an answer for the housing. As a senior ar 76 yrs. old I think some of these comments are wrong and doesn’t represent all seniors. For me to move in al brand new beautifully complex with people my own age I find this so exciting. There are buses that take us shopping and to Dr. appointments they even have a store right on the property. It’s wonderful being around young people in our family but some of us have outlived most of our relatives that are our age. This can be very painful for us, that’s why Ilook forward to meeting people my own age. I’m on the waiting list of renters and pray I get the apt. Soon
