Aloft Hotel’s Curtain Wall Takes Shape at 132 West 28th Street in Chelsea

Curtain wall installation is progressing on the Aloft Hotel at 132 West 28th Street in Chelsea. Designed by Peter Poon Architects and developed by Frank Ng, the 32-story tower stands 326 feet tall and will contain 203 guest rooms.

Recent photographs show the state of progress at the site, which is located between Sixth Avenue and Seventh Avenue. Progress has been gradual since YIMBY’s last visit in November 2019, when the reinforced concrete superstructure was closing in on the final floors, and façade work had yet to begin. Now the curtain wall, which is composed of floor-to-ceiling glass surrounded by black metal paneling, is reaching the halfway mark. Operable windows are blended within the fenestration and will be found across the entire main elevation. The last components likely to finish are the ground floor and the crown, where the water towers and mechanical units will be located.

Guest amenities include a fitness center, a ground-floor bar and lounge, an outdoor terrace on the second floor, and a business center on the third floor. 132 West 28th Street is one of several new Aloft Hotels under construction in the city, along with a Financial District location at 50 Trinity Place. The closest subways are the 1 train at West 28th Street and Seventh Avenue and the R and W trains at Broadway.

A completion date of 132 West 28th Street has not been announced, though sometime in 2021 is likely.

  1. Well, this is a good breather from the nearby Gene Kaufman tower.

    • I agree…
it’s so obvious what a “real” architect can design rather than a
      “wanna be”!
      Like night and day.

Airlines will be laying off tens of thousands in October as Federal aid ends. I can’t imagine what hotel owners are going through, let alone having to finish building new hotels already under construction.
Our only hope is a change after the November Nightmare and developing an effect vaccine. Don’t hold your breath…

  3. Is this the 7th or 8th Hotel on this block?
Soon to be the highest concentration of SROs in the city since the early 1980s.

  4. I hate how it’s set back from the street and breaks up the street wall… bad bad bad.

  5. Flower street was a little jungle with its beauty and pleasant smell.
Now turned into a hotel zone like west 39th street.
But without tourists or business it’s turning itself into a homeless street.

  6. I agree. The setback is terrible within the existing context.
