Leasing has officially launched at Two South Willow, a new rental property at 2 South Willow Street in downtown Montclair, New Jersey. Designed by Marchetto Higgins Stieve and Minno Wasko with interiors by Kara Mann Design, the six-story building yields 200 apartments ranging from studios up to two-bedroom accommodations. Each home features open living spaces, modern kitchens with stainless steel appliances, walk-in closets for many of the residences, and in-unit washer dryers. Select units will have a private terrace or balcony.
The building also houses 38,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and arts space. The lower levels of the building are thoughtfully designed to open out into the new 12,000-square-foot Wellmont Pedestrian Plaza set for public debut this summer.
Communal amenity spaces include a private courtyard, a fitness center, a rooftop study with a fireplace, and a furnished roof deck with fire pits, barbecue grills, and a shuffleboard court that overlooks the Manhattan skyline. The building also offers an enclosed parking area.
“After years of developing properties throughout the tri-state area, we were thrilled to be able to build in a such a vibrant community like Montclair,” said David Barry, CEO of Ironstate Development Company. “The dynamic, local culture heavily influenced the design of the building and development of the new Wellmont Arts Plaza to create a new destination for Montclair residents.”
As reported by YIMBY in 2020, Ironstate is working in collaboration with Brookfield Properties to invigorate Montclair’s downtown arts district. The arts district is anchored by the Wellmont Theater on Bloomfield Avenue, which informed the district’s master plan and forthcoming developments. Beyond residential properties, the full project scope includes expanded retail offerings, offices, art space, public parking, and the pedestrian plaza.
The master plan spans roughly 2.5 acres, with multiple sites in various phases of construction.
