Façade work is continuing to progress on The Fifth Avenue Hotel at 1 West 28th Street in NoMad. Designed by Perkins EastmanPBDW Architects, and Martin Brudnizki Design Studio and developed by Flaneur Hospitality, the project involves the construction of a 230-foot-tall, 24-story reinforced concrete tower and the renovation and hotel conversion of a 116-year-old McKim, Mead & White-designed building. CNY Group is the general contractor for the project, which is alternatively addressed as 250 Fifth Avenue and is being built at the corner of Fifth Avenue and West 28th Street.

Since our last update in April, more windows and metal panels have been installed across the height of the taller segment of the Fifth Avenue Hotel, primarily around the roof parapet and around the lower floors.

Exterior work on the McKim, Mead & White structure remains mostly complete, and its ornamented outer walls warmly catch the morning light. The elegant cornices, subtly etched stone motifs, and hand-crafted bricks were brought back to a pristine state.

The Fifth Avenue hotel will yield 153 hotel rooms with 129 situated within the new addition and the remaining 24 placed in the historic structure, which is being called The Mansion. The hotel will boast two outdoor rooftop bars perched on the northern and southern edges of the 23rd floor that will provide future visitors with views of NoMad and Midtown. Other guest amenities coming to the site include a multi-level restaurant, a cafe, a bank vault turned into a wine cellar, and a 5,000-square-foot ballroom with 20-foot-high ceilings and an adjacent outdoor terrace next to the main lobby. Madison Square Park is a short walk to the south, the iconic Empire State Building several streets to the north along Fifth Avenue, and the nearest subway station is the 28th Street stop along Broadway, servicing the local R and W trains. The local 6 train can be found along Park Avenue South to the east.

YIMBY estimates The Fifth Avenue Hotel to open sometime in early 2022.
